Our devices are on the Garmin inReach Professonal Plan by default, and we allocate usage depending on your rental duration

  • Standard usage included:
    • Unlimited preset message sends - you may save 3 preset messages in advance and send them as much as you like
    • Unlimited SOS messaging - Emergency messaging with the Garmin Response Center is unlimited
    • 1.5 per day for received messages, custom messages, and weather - sending custom messages, receiving any messages, and weather requests count towards the message bucket. You get 1.5 per day of rental as a bucket, rounded up. For example you would get 11 messages for a 7-day rental.
    • Overages:
      • $0.79 per message beyond your bucket
      • $0.17 per tracking update
  • Heavier use: If you expect frequent messages, detailed tracking, or long expeditions, let us know and we can tailor a plan so you’re not worrying about usage.

What Is inReach?

Garmin inReach is a compact, rugged satellite communicator that keeps you connected even when your phone has no signal. Using the global Iridium satellite network, inReach lets you send and receive messages, share your location, and trigger an SOS from almost anywhere on Earth with a clear view of the sky, with access to Garmin's 24/7 dedicated emergency response center.


Unlike a phone, it doesn’t rely on cell towers, and doesn't depend on you actively connecting to a satellite. The inReach sends and checks for messages in the background! Unlike a PLB, it supports two-way messaging. And unlike a satellite phone, it’s lightweight, simple, and affordable. It’s one of the most reliable tools you can bring into the backcountry.

FAQ

Do I need cell coverage for inReach to work?
No. inReach Mini 2 uses the Iridium satellite network, not cell towers, so it works well beyond mobile coverage as long as it has a clear view of the sky.

Can I send messages to any phone?
Yes. You can send and receive text messages to mobile numbers and email addresses. Contacts do not need any special app.

Does it always track my location?
You choose when to turn tracking on and how often location points are sent. You can also send manual check-in messages as needed.

Is SOS available all the time?
Yes, as long as the device has a clear view of the sky and an active subscription. The SOS button connects you to a 24/7 emergency response centre that coordinates with local search and rescue.

How long does the battery last?
Battery life depends on your settings, but in typical 10-minute tracking mode with a good view of the sky, it can last up to around 14 days between charges, and up to 30 days with 30-minute tracking; even longer with tracking off. Note that obstructions can significantly decrease battery life, such as when indoors and under tree cover. Heavy tree cover can cause the battery to drain in only 4 days with 10-minute tracking and 10 days with 30-minute tracking. We suggest turning the device off while you are obstructed from a clear view of the sky.

Can I use it as my primary navigation device?
It's recommended to have a separate solution for maps and navigation. inReach Mini 2 has very basic navigation and TracBack routing, but most people pair it with a phone, GPS app, or traditional maps for full navigation.

Where do you deliver?
We serve Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley, and the Sea-to-Sky region with flexible pickup and delivery options, similar to our Starlink and power station rentals.

What deposit/ID is required?
We require standard ID and a refundable security deposit at pickup or delivery, the same as our other rentals.
